Jim --
This has probably been discussed a number of times. And I probably missed
it. You advocate stripping the clearcoat and then polishing the unit instead.
If I understand correctly, the fee for an initial job is something like
$100/ft which should put mine at about $3K. In addition to that I imagine
there are
extra fees for dealing with awnings, stone guards, etc?
It would then last for about 2-3 years until this needs to get done again. At that point, provided one has taken reasonable care of the unit, how extensive and expensive is the next re-touch if you did it. And/or what would be the cost and labor be if I did that re-touch myself? Intitial equipment costs, fee for getting trained by your folks when the initial job is done plus material for each turn?
I am also wondering about how quickly the shiny job fades. If one re-polishes the unit at the prescribed interval, would that also mean that the unit pretty much looks nice all the time? Or does it come out like a mirror and then slowly goes dull over the 2-3 years before it is time again?
Also, are we talking $1K+/year (average) to keep the coat nice?
Thanks,
Per
