Thanks, Pat. Can you you think of any reason not to use the main batteries in the trailer to operate the break away emergency brakes? Seems too obvious to be sensible. Jon.

Yes, that little box under the front window on the older Airstreams is the battery box. I have one on my 1962 Bambi. The strange looking battery I found at NAPA Auto Parts. That style of battery is common for industrial use, such as fork lifts and tractors. It is an easy style to find if you know where to look. Before I installed my Bambi's battery I cleaned out the battery box well and used an aluminum spray paint in there to help protect against corrosion with the metal. Make sure that the little ground wire has a good contact with the trailer body.
