I must admit my automatic brakes for emergency breakaway have never worked, I look at those fat safety chains, weight dist. etc and think it's overkill. Illegal huh?
How do you know the breakaway brakes don't work? Do you not use safety  chains?  You need to cross them you know....... the idea being that if the hitch does get undone it will sit on the crossed chains...........instead of screaming along the blacktop. I don't know if it's illegal or not.... to not use them.
I use crossed chains, as the law says you must. It also says you must have auto brakes on the trailer
if it disconnects, mine looks like it works, but there's no battery to run the electric brakes. It kept
going dead from neglect. I might get round to wiring it into the trailer main batteries. BTW does
anyone know, that little box 4" x 8" x 16" approx, (older streams only) under the front window was
designed to hold said battery, right?
