Hello. I'm Chuck Smith from Johnstown, PA. My wife and I are the new owners of a 1983 31'
Excella. We are brand new to Airstreams, and have a thousand questions. We've been cleaning and
learning as we go (with a lot of help from sites like this!) So far everything works fine, but I noticed a
small leak inside the trailer, behind the cabinet by the door. There was about 20" of snow on the roof
at the time, and it was melting fast. It's been dry since the snow melted, but I guess I have to seal the
seams. I see sealers discussed. Should I use the same sealer on the roof and sides? What about
around the vents? Should I try to remove the old sealer from the seams - it's hard and brittle.
Also, I have a small area, looks about 3" x 3" of rotten floorboard right inside the door. I was planning
to lift a section of carpet and patch in a ne piece of plywood. Any tricks I should know?
One more question for now. The "AIRSTREAM" and "Excella" letters are faded blue with what looks
like used to be aluminum edges. I'd like to clean them up. Should I just carefully paint them?
Thanks a lot.
