In the auto battery dept. of Wal-Mart I found a battery charger that can be
permanently attached to your vehicle. It can maintain the battery
automatically when left plugged into shore power. It has solid state
circuitry to start and stop the charging as needed. The best part is the
$24.95 price.

West Marine has a charger that checks the battery level every second or so
and charges the battery if it has dropped below a certain level. It goes
for about $100, less on sale. Our boat battery gets the trickle through
this controller and the battery lasts 5 - 7 years.
