To the newest members of the List: There is a wealth of information
here about Airstreams and other subjects as well, shared by a diverse
group of folks, who happen to love Airstreams. Welcome.

On Rob's "wish list" for his A/S, he mentioned an awning. When my
father purchased his 1967 28ft. Ambassador in 1971, there was no awning
with it. Used Airstreams are rare enough, I'm sure second-hand A/S
awnings are even harder to get. Does anybody have any suggestions about
obtaining one?

Of course, now that I know of someone with a sewing machine, maybe I
could just have it made. Jon, u there? Ever sewed an awning?
Interested?

Actually, Zip Dee, the original RV awning manufacturer has hardware to fit.
Zip Dee was founded by an Airstreamer in the 50's because he didn't like
having to put on and take off an awning each time he wanted to use one. Zip
Dee has been an Airstream tradition since. They are however, a premium
awning, and priced accordingly. The other option occasionally seen is what
is called a box awning. Box awnings have all the workings in the case with
the fabric. They are available from all the current RV awning manufacturers
except Zip Dee.
