With all this talk of awnings and snaps and things, it looks like a good place to ask a beginner question.

I have no awning in my '58. However, there is a thingie that I assume is a channel for fastening one on. How does that thing work? If I am too poor to buy a ZipDee or somesuch, is there a way to fasten a tarp with a couple of posts and guylines?

I can imagine that a rope edge on a tarp would slide into that channel...in theory...but I'll bet it is a time-consuming task. Is that what Wally and crew did way back when?
