My personal preference is for a Diesel tow vehicle. If buying used you would be happier with a turbo model with a trailer of that size. I have towed for years with a 6.2 chev bought new in 84 to which I added a gear vendors over/underdrive. The unloaded fuel economy exceeds 20 mpg and runs 15 to 19 with the trailer. It is however somewhat underpowered. I have just replaced it with a new Dodge Turbodiesel and the power difference is night and day. The first unloaded tank of fuel came in at 20 mpg on 2 lane mountain roads. I will tranfer the gear Vendors to it later and expect even better. A gas 454 suburban would do a fine job for you but the fuel economy will be much poorer. The initial purchase price of the diesel is much higher. The payout in the diesel comes at 80 to 100k miles so how much you drive is a factor also. To a great degree it comes down to a matter of personal taste
