Hi Ted:

For that size rig I highly recommend getting a diesel something. The fuel savings along will make you very happy. I personally would look at either the Ford Powerstroke F250/ F350 units, or the Dodge Cummins trucks with long wheelbase. If you can find a HD Suburban go for that with the diesel, although GM is about to transition to an Isuzu engined unit nobody has seen yet. The current 6.5 is a fine engine.

With a long trailer you need a long wheelbase for safe tow, so don't even consider a short wheelbase truck.

Finally: Get a Hensley Arrow hitch put on the Trailer. It will really make the tow a delight.

Oh yea... to convert to a "small economy car", add a Gear Vendors over/under drive to the rear of the transmission and enjoy telling fellow owners of getting 20-25 mpg in a large truck ! Watch their mouths drop open!! Plus a diesel engine sounds really cool !
