Probably should have touched on that too:

I am using a 99 Dodge,Cummins diesel, extended cab, 8 ft bed. 3/4 ton, non dually, 5 speed manual

Most the tow vehicles I see are either Dodge (cummins) or Ford Power stroke turbo diesels. They will hire gas powered vehicles but since economy is a factor there are few out there as drivers pay their own fuel. Tow vehicle requirements are a 3/4 ton or 1 ton (dually) equipped with a 5th wheel hitch and conventional hitch They will not hire a non turbo charged diesel because of the smoke and dirt problem. That is real. I am still cleaning black stuff off the 54 after going west with my chev. non turbo diesel this summer.

As I mentioned in the diesel thread a few days ago I have only seen one GM truck working out of the place I am at. I don't know why so don't think I am taking a shot at GM.

If I owned a large 5th wheel personally I probably would go the dually route, however nothing I own justifies it and I have not felt the 3/4 ton was inadequate for anything I have delivered. The largest was a 36 ft 5th wheel across I 80 in Pa but this is larger than what I normally haul. It was the price I paid to get a run east to stop at the Vintage Airstream gathering in Delaware a few weeks ago.
