Roy,
I've used a fine sand paper and wet sanded bad areas such as deep corrosion and some scratches. Then used an agressive compound and then finishing off with a fine polishing compound. Even did a whole badly corroded Bambi this way. It turned out very nice. Was a lot of work though. This was the unit I took on the Wagon Wheel Caravan last summer. The unit was so rough that I didn't have anything to lose. It's been around four years now and it still looks good. I use a good quality wax on it. Next time I hope to have the funds to let the "pros" do it. You need to be careful about removing as little metal as possible. It's only so thick.
