Hi
...another opinion...
Thought about using a bumper hitch myself, but decided to go with a class III, and my F150 bumper is very solidly bolted to the frame.
In fact, I am seriously considering a Pullrite hitch to avoid the entire issue of sway dampers. ( uh, oh - do i see another thread firing up :-)
I do not know how strong your bumper is, or whether it can hold vertical weight, or how severe will be the sway problems.
I understand there are many bumpers built to take a horizontal bump up to a defined speed and use mini-shock absorbers to absorb the shock...seems reasonable, doesn't it...but can NOT take a vertical load because the bumper has to stick out from the frame to allow the absorbers to collapse and handle the horizontal bump.
How much weight would your vehicle & bumper hitch be rated to handle, and with a loaded trailer are you under that limit?
I would also ask an insurance company if they would pay off a claim with your trailer pulled by such a bumper hitch.
If the numbers are even close, forget the bumper hitch... better safe than sorry.
Luck
Darrell
