I have a question and I would like to see if it can be answered without any mention of the H word.

I am considering buying a 95 Ford Explorer to pull my Caravel (2250 lbs). The bumper of the SUV is rated to 3500 (if I remember correctly). The Explorer itself is rated to 5600.

Here is the question: Can I safely tow with the bumper? I know that some people on this list think I cannot safely tow without one of those really expensive hitches, so please don't tell me that. I would like to hear from those who will grant that it is safe to tow with a Reese or equivalent hitch.

If you recommend against bumper towing, why?
