I have used a 10 year old 500 watt Honda generator to charge battery on a '76 Argosy with no problem. The generator has both a 110v output plug and a 12V. I simply plugged the land line into the 110V outlet. Got the job done. All this equipment is fairly old and I am not to sure if this applies to later model rigs and converters. However, the generator is a bit inconvenient and neighbors don't really care for it. I have since put up solar panels on my current 78 Argosy. One panel for each of the four batteries. Probably a little overkill but I got the panel cheap so why not. There are a lot of books out there on RV solar useage and you can read up and determine your power needs. Of course the more stored power you have the more you will get into the habit of using. The difference in cost of a single panel for your existing battery, and appropriate controls, and that of a good generator may not be as far apart as you might think.
