Bill and Judy,

I have tried all sorts of stuff on the Silicone caulk , MEK, Lacquer
thinner, Mineral spirits , acetone , Paint strippers for Plastics ,
strippers for Epoxy , alkaline , Gasoline, Kerosene and turpentine. I used
a heat gun that we use on heat shrink tubing , seem to be the best , but
then again it was not easy .
What's bad about the Silicones is it is impossible to remove it totally .
This is why it is a no no in Aviation . Silicones Liquids are not allowed
on the surface it causes all sorts of problems , I call it a Oxidation
Magnet. I have seen and heard Engineers say it causes Corrosions to start
and worsen . I have spoken with painters over the years that say " paint
sag, Massive orange peel, and no stick are common if the Area is not sanded
to remove it to the core Alloy Grain " So it is not good news for you all
.
I had a man say his polish job looked good the day he done it but the next
morning the shine was gone and his airplane skin looked white hazy . I ask
him the name of his polish and bam Silicone based product to cut and
Ammonia based to color out. I sent him some Super Shine 30 to Color Buff
it back. I indeed told him in order to get the stuff out of core Alloy he would
have to etch it.

Bill and Judy why don't ya write one of the manufactures of the Silicone
Caulk and ask them what the procedure is to remove it from your Airstream ?
See if they give you a answer.

Hey howls the new building project ?
