While I am not sure of the dates the sequence as has been explained to me is this. The founders of Avion were at one time employees of Airstream at the Ohio plant. After a disagreement with Wally they departed and founded a new company, Avion. This is a fairly common phenomenon in the RV industry. Avion continued for many years as a privately held company. They were bought by Fleetwood in the early 80's.

Fleetwood, as they have done with other old brand names, shortly ceased production of trailer's and used the brand on a fiberglass sided fifth wheel. The original Avion service center still continues as Cayo Repair with relatives of the founders as owners.
